No 1 thing that separates you from the rest of the living beings!

… is that we humans have free will. The freedom of choice.
"Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any set of given circumstances, to choose one's own way". Victor E. Frankl
But how many of us really embrace this gift we are given?
Most people wake up every day and complain about their day, having to get up and go to work…
Totally forgetting the fact that going to work is their own choice…
Perhaps some of you will react to this comment and say: "Of course not, I need to go to work because I need to earn money"…
I will not argue back and open that can of worms in this article. But rest assured even going to work is your choice, whether you realise it or not.
In fact,
Everything you do is a choice.
Everything you have is a choice (money, house, good or bad relationships etc.)
Every emotion you feel is a choice.
Whether it is conscious or unconscious.
Every single moment of every day you have the opportunity to make a choice about what you will or will not do and who you decide to be in any given situation.
This also applies to the meanings you give to the situations you are faced with every day.
...because the attitude and the meaning you choose determine the outcomes you experience now and in the future.
I have a 10-year old son,
Yesterday one of his ‘friends’ said to him, in front of all his classmates!
You are a weirdo!😮
Then turned to the rest of the class and said: "Hands up if you think Emre is a weirdo!"
All except two put their hands up!😮
The same day we had a phone call from the school that Emre is "making some wrong choices" in the classroom🙄!
Later we realised
What Emre is really doing is subconsciously conforming to the behaviour his classmates (and dare I say his school) are expecting him!
(What the classmates don't know is, the real meaning of weirdo!)
Consciously Emre was so happy to be called a weirdo
because he knows that
weirdo means, extraordinary, eccentric, individual, gifted and unique!🥰🤩
I was so proud of him to take it like this.
I will teach him the tools to make sure his subconscious understands it is OK to be a weirdo and
that is what makes him special...
not conforming to every limitation he is faced with at school, whether it is justified or not.
Plus this is a great opportunity for him to learn how to manage his reactions to his environment and become an observer rather than a victim of the circumstances!
Have you ever been called a weirdo?
Where in your life have you been conforming to the expectations of society thinking you are a weirdo... without knowing the true meaning?
What sort of outcomes have you created in your life as a result of this belief?
Listen to Ian and I on this week’s podcast episode 43 where we talk about the meanings we put onto choices we make and how this changes the outcomes we experience.
Until next time…
